Music in Bass Hall welcomes the Boston-based David Thorne Scott Quartet for an evening of swinging jazz on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The show will feature the music of Scott’s current project, “Thornewood”, a forthcoming album where he mixes and matches elements of jazz and Americana: Cole Porter and Harold Arlen right next to John Denver and Townes Van Zandt.
Scott is an entertainer whose beautiful voice and creativity have thrilled audiences in venues large and small. His passion for bringing a modern edge to the classics of the Great American Songbook, as well as his original songs, earned his album “Shade” a Top 5 CD of the Year Award by the Jazz Education Journal. David and his trio of top Boston musicians emphasize the tuneful pleasures of great songs as well as the joy and excitement of improvisation.
Scott will be joined by Mark Shilansky on piano and vocals, Austin McMahon on drums, and Greg Loughman on bass. Shilansky is well-known in New England Jazz circles from his work with the Seacoast Jazz Society and numerous bands. He has been an Associate Professor at the Berklee School of Music since 1997. McMahon teaches jazz at the New England Conservatory and has played at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall as well as festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe. A bassist since the age of 15, Loughman is an in-demand studio musician as well as the member of several jazz bands and his own indie-rock group, The Lowman.
Tickets are $20, $18 for Monadnock Center members. Tickets may be purchased at MonadnockCenter.org or by calling the center at (603) 924-3235. The show will be held in Bass Hall at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture, 19 Grove St. in Peterborough.
