Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music has been approved for a $15,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support Apple Hill’s upcoming Summer Workshop and Concert Series now in its 49th year.
“Apple Hill is extremely honored to receive this award from the NEA,” said Apple Hill Director Lenny Matczynski. “This is definitely a moment we will share with everyone, especially our summer students, faculty, and music-loving audience.”
Overall, the National Endowment for the Arts has approved 1,187 grants totaling $27.3 million in the first round of fiscal year 2020 funding to support arts projects in every state in the nation, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Art Works funding category supports projects that focus on public engagement with, and access to, various forms of excellent art across the nation; the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence; learning in the arts at all stages of life; and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life.
“The arts are at the heart of our communities, connecting people through shared experiences and artistic expression,” said Arts Endowment chairman Mary Anne Carter. “The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support projects like Apple Hill’s Summer Program.”
Founded in 1971, Apple Hill offers educational and mentoring programs each summer as part of its Summer Chamber Music Workshop on its 100-acre campus of farm buildings and cabins in Nelson. Students, ages 13 to 85, participate in small ensembles coached daily by a faculty of 45 instructors. The organization presents a Summer Concert Series in its Concert Barn, preceded by pre-concert talks and buffet suppers. These concerts feature Apple Hill’s resident ensemble, the Apple Hill String Quartet, summer session faculty, renowned guest artists, and Apple Hill alumni. Outside the summer season, Apple Hill conducts workshops to thousands more throughout the world while producing or performing approximately 60 concerts, residencies, and national and international tours.
