Bomb squad called to Jaffrey address after two arrests

Jaffrey police, including state bomb disposal experts, were at a Nutting Road residence for over 12 hours on Friday, following the arrest of two men found in the house.

On Friday, at about 10 a.m., police, the U.S. Marshal Service, New Hampshire State Police and New Hampshire Probation and Parole executed a search warrant at 54 Nutting Road in Jaffrey, on information that Ronald Wilson, 42, of Jaffrey, was staying at the address.

Wilson was wanted on a warrant issued on Aug. 8, charging him with failure to report as a sexual offender, which was a violation of his parole requirements.

Police searched the residence and found Wilson in the basement of the home.

During the search, police also identified Devin Lafreniere, 22, of Jaffrey, who was also arrested on charges of violation of probation.

“He was found during the search in the residence, and based on the circumstances of him being present there, it was a violation of his probation,” Det. Chris Anderson of the Jaffrey Police.

Anderson declined to further elaborate on the circumstances that constituted the violation.

Both men were taken into custody without issue, Anderson said, but police remained on the scene for hours afterward, because of a “suspicious device” police found during the search.

Anderson would not comment on what police believed the device to be, but the state Explosive Ordinance Disposal team was called in to examine the device, which was eventually “determined to be inert and not a danger to the community,” according to a Jaffrey police press release.

“We had concerns about identifying the object and utilized the state police EOD team to assist with identification of what it was,” Anderson said.

Police cleared the scene at about 11 p.m.

Both Wilson and Lafreniere were taken to the Cheshire County House of Corrections in Keene to be held pending a court hearing. Both were still being held Monday, Anderson said.
