The Mariposa Museum & World Culture Center has opened a limited-run exhibition of paintings by Taiwanese artist Lin Chia-Hung, titled “East Show Time.” Lin’s paintings, drawing on the tradition of Japanese manga have won him many awards at international art expositions and his paintings are included in the collection of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
The exhibit will be up through Saturday, Nov. 2.
Manga refers to the distinctively stylized graphic novels and comic books that parallel the Japanese anime film genre. Combining a background as a portrait painter with experience as an animated film editor, Lin animates his paintings in such a way that the viewer cannot help but imagine the movement taking place before and after the split second captured on the canvas.
Meanwhile, Lin’s paintings combine surface elements of “cuteness” and “innocence” with deeper undertones of emotional depth and social commentary.
This exhibit is free to Mariposa members; for nonmembers, the cost is regular museum admission.
