To the editor:
A charmer, a glad-hander, a smiling smoothie — this is our very popular governor. The appeal of a person who behaves ingratiatingly is perfectly understandable. The people of New Hampshire are ladies and gentlemen who disdain the loud boorishness daily on display in the nation’s capital and welcome with relief any sign of civility and courtesy.
Sad to say, that is the only relief our charming, glad-handing, smoothly smiling governor offers. We need school relief; we need property relief. The economy is slowing; the surplus is shrinking; business tax revenues are declining. The university system receives only seven percent support from the state. (No wonder some candidates are promoting pretty extreme “free-for-all” solutions). The projected revenue coming in is less that $72,000,000. The budget’s proposed capital gains tax, the family leave tax, the raise for Medicaid providers —all vetoed. The charming governor’s slashes, cuts, vetoes amount to $152,000,000. Who benefits? It’s no mystery: that microscopic percentage of the very rich can get richer. If a measure can help someone, give a leg up, save someone in distress, ease a hardship — forget it. Veto. Promisies, promises have been followed by betrayals. New Hampshire voters, be warned: all that charm, glad-handing, smooth smiling — very sad to say — it’s a clever disguise. Our very popular governor is a Trumpster.
