Great Brook, The Well School, Winchester and Boynton joined host, Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School, for a cross country competition on Tuesday.
Nearly 80 kids towed the start line on the track in Jaffrey for the start of this 5-way middle school cross country meet.
In the girls race, Boynton dominated. Skye Lambert ran away from the pack to finish the 1.7 mile course in 11 minutes 37 seconds. Teammate Pandora Tilton placed second in 11:54.
Breaking up the sea of black Boynton uniforms was Amarah Lapinsky, of Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School, taking 3rd with a time of 12:19. Next, Boynton’s Amelia Smith barely edged her teammate Erin O’Shea. Both were timed in 12:22.
Leah Ducharme, a Great Brook School 5th grader, finished 6th with a time of 12:31. She was followed closely by Kaitlin O’Shea, Boynton, in 12:33, and Jordan Myshrall, Boynton 12:34. Rounding out the top 10 were Holland Calcutt from The Well School, in 12:39, and Emma Schaumloffell, Boynton, in 12:43.
Amber Gnoza and Neve Mormando, seventh graders at JRMS, finished 11th and 12th, in 12:57 and 13:17. Beckley Wooster, of Winchester, snared the 13th place finish with her 13:34 timing. She was followed by Skyah McLaughlin, The Well School, in 13:42, and Lyla Wrightmoore, from Winchester, in 13:44.
Boynton easily won the girls’ title with their low of 19 points. JRMS was 2nd with 62. The Well School nipped Winchester, 88 to 91, and Great Brook finished 5th with 116 points.
The boys’ race was very exciting with Winchester’s Ian Cardinale and Boyton’s Logan Lucas running side-by-side with only 200 meters to go on the JRMS track. Cardinale prevailed in 10:17 with Lucas five seconds back.
Alec Nieuwenhuizen, from The Well School, was third in 10:43. He was followed by Boynton’s Peyton Vaillancourt, 11:21, in Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School’s John Morrilly, in 11:52.
In sixth place was The Well School’s Nate Pimental, in 11:58. Jake Crawford, Boynton, was seventh in 12:01. Eighth place went to Damien Conan of Great Brook in 12:28. He was followed by a trio of Boynton runners, Dylan Buttrick, 12:32, Dylan Cillahan, 12:35, and Ryan Teague, 12:45.
Grabbing 12th place was Jacob Croteau of Winchester in 12:49. He was followed by Trevor Pearson of Great Brook in 12:51. 14th place went to Sam Moritz, also of Great Brook, in 12:53. Closing out the top 15 was Brian O’Connor from The Well School in 12:55.
The Boynton boys won the team title with 32 points. The Well School edged GBS, 69 to 72, for 2nd and 3rd. Winchester was 4th with 91. For the boys’ race, JRMS failed to field five finishers and was left out of the scoring.
