The Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School cross-country team hosted Great Brook School and Winchester on Tuesday.
In the girls’ race, Leah Ducharme, a GBS 5th grader, bolted to the lead from the word, “Go!” and never looked back, covering the 1.7 mile track/trail course in 12:52. Amarah Lapinsky (JRMS, 8th grade) was relentlessly closing the gap but finished 2nd, in 13:06. Winchester’s Lyla Wright (5th grade) was next, in 13:21, followed by the hard-charging JRMS runner, Amber Gnoza. JRMS’s Neve Mormando completed the top five with her 14:00 finishing time. JRMS won the girls’ meet with 27 points, followed by Winchester (40) and GBS (59.) Ashlynd Carey and Maya Pressman completed the scoring for the victorious JRMS Cardinals.
8th-grader Ian Cardinale of Winchester was clearly the class of the boys’ field, winning by almost a full minute, in 11:12. JRMS had the next two positions with John Morrilly (7th grade) sprinting to a 12:08 time and Austen Richard (8th) looking strong with his 12:45. GB closed out the Top 5 with Tucker Pierson (7th grade, 13:05) and Horatio Vassar (6th, 13:26.) In the boys’ team scoring, JRMS eclipsed Winchester (32 to 37,) while GB was right behind with 42 points. Joining Morrilly and Richard in the win were Kadin Rinaldi, Trayton Chapman and Mason Karpinski.
