To the editor:
I am troubled by some of the disparaging statements that have been issued regarding Mr. Mueller’s appearance and testimony before the Judiciary and Intelligence committees on Wed. July 24.
Starting with his heroic service in Viet Nam as a Marine officer and continuing with his steadfast dedication to the legal profession and outstanding leadership of the FBI and, most recently, Special Counsel, Mr. Mueller has driven himself relentlessly to the limits of his outstanding capabilities. Now, in the twilight of his career, the wear and tear is starting to show.
The acuity of his hearing may be diminished and the quick recall may be slowing, but the wisdom is still there along with his dedication to the most noble aspirations of this country.
I choose to think that his performance last week was his finest hour. The differences in stature and nobility between him and those who opposed him were simply stark. I hope that he can now relax in the company of family and friends, secure in the knowledge that he has accomplished far more than could be expected of any American patriot.
It is now up to the next generation to bring this country back to its former position of leadership of the free countries of the world.
