South Meadow School assistant principal Tim Conway made a new friend on the way to work Tuesday morning – a juvenile broad-winged hawk that had fallen from a tree and was dazed on the side of the road in Greenfield near North Pack Monadnock.

Conway called in Maria Colby from Wings of the Dawn in Henniker, a raptor rescue/rehabilitation center, and she came to SMS to scoop up the young bird.

Colby plans to rehabilitate the hawk in time for the September raptor release on Pack Monadnock and release it back to its home turf.

Colby urged readers who find injured raptors to contact Wings of the Dawn at 428-3723.
