Police surrounded a home on Birch Road in Rindge Wednesday afternoon for what officials on the scene called an “active situation.”
Birch Road was barricaded off around noon on Wednesday and remained so as of 1:45 p.m. Police officers from Rindge, Jaffrey and New Ipswich were on the scene, as well as state police, some of whom appeared heavily armored with helmets and bulletproof vests.
A regional alert system announced a call for a “barricaded subject” on Birch Road at 12:01 p.m. Wednesday.
Police kept a wide perimeter cordoned off around the home; passersby could hear officers speaking over a loudspeaker, communicating that they wanted to make sure the subject was all right.
Birch Road residents were told to stay in their homes for their own safety.
UPDATE, 4:02 p.m.: Rindge Police notified residents on Facebook that one suspect was in custody.
