Don’t give up on science

To the editor:

In response to Mr. Wilkinson’s recent letter to the editor:

Dear Mr. Wilkinson, ask yourself these questions please: Has science cracked the genetic code so that illness could be predicted ahead of time? Did science bring us medicines to cure polio, cancers, prevent and treat stroke and heart attack victims. Did science prove that Chernobyl and Fukushima power plant failures poisoned hoards of people? Does science predict birth defects and operable diseases that can be dealt with even before birth? Did science discover that plants help to clean our air, making trees very valuable? Did science tell us our bees and bats are in rapid decline which will mean fewer pollinators for crops, and many more mosquitos to spread disease from loss of bats? Did science cure rabies? Did science send a man to the moon and look out to distant stars and planets that you may now go to see as a civilian with enough cash. Did science find a cure for smallpox? Did science find that coal miners get black lung from excavating coal? And that coal smoke pollutes our air?

Please don’t give up on science. You and deniers will push our world to end badly. It doesn’t take a “liberal” to see the ice caps melting rapidly. Do we believe a low-intelligence, uneducated, confirmed liar and failed businessman against all the countries of the world (other than ours) who recognize climate change as a very big threat? Please do some intelligent reading and discover the truth you don’t seem to grasp. We need you to help keep people and water and air clean for the generations to come.
