To the editor:
The State has no money! Neither do the Feds! It is OUR money – all of it!
I’m amused at the ConVal and other school districts’ efforts to get more ‘State’ money to provide for “adequate” education for our young people. More than half of our local town taxes are consumed by the local educational systems but the current plaintiffs complain that is not enough compensation by the ‘State.’
When we taxpayers send one dollar to Concord the State uses about 15 percent for administrative costs. “State Aid” means we get 85 percent of our own money back! Sue ‘the State’ for $10K per student, and if court ordered we will get charged $11.5K locally. Rather than involve the state systems let’s keep our money local. The more money we send to Concord, the more we lose local control of education. And, by the way, the Feds have no money either. A ‘federal grant’ is the distribution of our own money minus 20 percent. And then there are the legal fees!
Fund local, spend local and administrate local! P.s. Any broad-based tax means higher taxes and less local control.
