School consolidation on the table for May Town Meeting

To the editor:

We are asking that you go to the Peterborough Community Center on May 14 and vote yes to Article #13.

This article asks that the Town of Peterborough seek to renegotiate the ConVal Articles of Agreement. The reason for this is because the school board has been unable to come to a consensus on how to deal with all the small, underutilized elementary schools in our district.

We donโ€™t have a problem with the small towns maintaining their small schools. We just feel that, in fairness, all towns should pay for only the schools their school children go to. This is how many districts in the State operate.

If towns wish to consolidate, they can make that decision. If towns do not wish to consolidate they can make that decision.

Peterborough is funding a great deal of this inefficiency. Our taxes are not going up solely because of what our town spends, it is the school district costs that are a large part of the tax increases. If the ConVal School Board is unable to solve this ongoing problem why not ask our Town to begin this discussion.

We urge you to go to the polls on Tuesday, May 14 and cast your YES vote for Article 13 and ask others to join in a yes vote.
