The people have spoken, and its good news for both The Peterborough Players and Andy’s Summer Playhouse.
At the 17th annual New Hampshire Theatre Alliance awards night on Saturday at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, the Players brought home the top award for the professional production of a drama/comedy with “An Inspector Calls,” while “The Drowsy Chaperone” finished in a tie with New London Barn Playhouse’s “42nd Street,” for best professional production of a musical. Andy’s took top billing for best youth production with “The Arrival.”
Players Managing Director Keith Stevens was named top director for a professional drama/comedy for “An Inspector Calls” and Artistic Director Gus Kaikkonen made it a clean sweep in the professional directing category for “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
Also for “An Inspector Calls,” Dee Nelson won for best supporting actress, while Kaikkonen and Charles Morgan (scenic design) and Anthony Paul-Cavaretta (costume design) also earned some hardware.
The other award for “The Drowsey Chaperone” came for Thomas Martin’s musical direction.
The Players also earned a number to top three finalists for both shows.
In addition to the top honor for best youth production, Andy’s original production of “The Arrival” also was recognized for lighting design for a community production for Peter Leibold’s work, and best sound design for a community production for Dylan Glatthorn.
