Peterborough Fire and Rescue has donated two Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) to the town of Dublin.

The AEDs – a small portable device that transmits a shock to a person’s heart to restore its regular rhythm after experiencing cardiac arrest – were donated after the department realized they had an excess of equipment following a recent reorganization, Deputy Chief Joshua Patrick said Wednesday.

“We had extra because some of our equipment was redundant,” Patrick said. “… the goal is to create a network of AEDs around the community so we have a better chance of delivering a shock quicker.”

Patrick said one AED will be placed in one of the town’s police cruisers, while the other will be placed at the town hall.

The only condition of the donation was that Dublin is to service the AEDs when needed, Patrick said.

Patrick said the town of Peterborough has 23 AEDs in service spread throughout town. The department is aware of another 28 AEDs in businesses throughout the Peterborough community.
