For the third straight year, in conjunction with its annual December holiday event, the Greenfield Historical Society is looking for any and all gingerbread creations.
The annual contest is open to anyone, whether they live in Greenfield or in any surrounding town.
There is no fee to enter and the only guidelines are that it must include a snowman and everything on the display must be edible.
“So they can let their imaginations go – as long as there’s a snowman in it,” said society member Lenny Cornwell.
That ties into the theme of this year’s event, Let It Snow, being held on Dec. 9 at the historical society, located at 828 Forest Road.
Those interested can drop off their submissions between 10 a.m. and noon on Dec. 9, and then pick them up at the end of the event. There will be prizes for the best gingerbread display in adult and youth categories.
“Some will really knock your socks off with what they put in there,” Cornwell said.
Let It Snow runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and will include displays of snow-related collectibles, such as snow globes, miniature snowmobiles and even snowmen.
“We try to do something different each year and it keeps the people coming back,” Cornwell said. “It’s a fun Sunday afternoon event.”
There will be a theme-related silent auction, holiday crafts, a bake sale and refreshments.
It’s a fundraiser for the historical society, and has brought in upwards of $500 each of the past two years.
