Electric Earth Concerts has announced its annual Gala fundraising afternoon is planned for Sunday, Dec. 2. The Gala will celebrate the end of Eclectic Earth Concerts 7th season and look ahead to season 8.
Emely Phelps, pianist, will play an hour-long recital curated for EECโs audience, with a special appearance by mezzo-soprano Jazimina MacNeil. Holiday snacks and our yearly Prosecco toast will follow.
Praised by the Boston Globe for her โfleet, energetic, and bright-tonedโ playing, pianist Emely Phelps enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher. From 2008-2016 she was the pianist of Trio Cleonice, with whom she performed in more than 15 states, toured Europe, and won second prize at the Schoenfeld International String Competition in Harbin, China. Currently based on Long Island, Emely is a DMA Candidate in Piano Performance at Stony Brook University, where she studies with Christina Dahl. Emely has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including the National Symphony Orchestra, the Los Colinas Symphony Orchestra and the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic and has presented solo recitals across the United States.
Hailed as โclearly a singer to watchโ by the New York Times and โfulminantโ by the Berliner Morgenpost, Jazimina MacNeilโs recent and upcoming performances include Mahlerโs Second Symphony at Carnegie Hall with the New York Youth Symphony, the roles of Anna in Kurt Weillโs The Seven Deadly Sins at the Tanglewood Music Festival, Subdominant in Steven Stuckyโs new opera The Classical Style with the Aspen Music Festival, Kate in Brittenโs Owen Wingrave, Rinaldo in Handelโs Rinaldo, Siebel in Faust, Carolina in Hans Werner Henzeโs Elegy for Young Lovers, Idamente in Idomeneo, and Carmen in Peter Brookโs adaptation of Le Tragedie de Carmen with the Curtis Opera Theater.
The program includes Schubertโs Drei Klavierstรผke, D. 948, Scriabinโs Op. 11 Preludes (excerpts) and songs by Kurt Weill, Jerome Kern and Cole Porter.
