A crash, involving an SUV that swerved off Main Street/Route 202 and crashed into a pole Friday afternoon, kept Main Street closed till Saturday morning.
“It was closed from basically till the time of the accident until 9 a.m. this morning,” Antrim police Sgt. Brain Lord said Saturday.
The crash occurred at 4:59 p.m. Friday, he said.
“It originally came in as a motor vehicle complaint and by the time the officer got there, which was pretty quick, she had already crash into the pole,” Lord said.
Lord said an officer at the police station had responded when a 911 caller reported an erratic driver on Main Street/Route 202.
The officer arrived to find a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, driven Laura Schwertz, 43, of Rindge, had left the road and crashed into a utility pole in front of Trends of Fashion hair salon. The hair salon and three other business in the building in front of the pole lost power. Lord said he doesn’t believe any other homes or businesses in town lost power.
Schwertz was conscious and alert and was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough with minor injuries.
Whether she was driving erratically and what caused the crash are under investigation, Lord said.
Eversource responded to fix the pole, which not only had a transformer on it but was connected to wires underground. Additionally, the crash had caused a low hanging wire across Main Street, which is why Main Street/Route 202 had to be closed overnight and motorist were detoured around the crash site, which was near Depot Street.
Saturday afternoon, Lord said, Eversource was still working on repairs to the pole, but the road had been reopened since 9 a.m.
