Great Brook gave Boynton a scare in the finals of the SMS Winter Slam on Monday night, but the Bulldogs held on to win the girls’ basketball tournament.

Coach Tim Conway’s Bobcats had initial success locking down Bulldogs star guard Brynn Rautiola, double-teaming her with the triangle-and-two, but after some midgame adjustments from coach Bruce McComish and some assistance from Dutch Stauffeneker, Boynton was able to adjust and break the Bobcat press.

Despite a spirited fourth-quarter run by Great Brook’s Donovan twins, Julia and Emily, Boynton pulled off a 31-24 win.

Sydney Bane led Boynton with nine points, and Emily Pare added eight.

For Great Brook, Isis Battaglia led with seven points and Maddy Faber scored six.

The Great Brook boys, on the other hand, would beat Keene in the boys’ tournament finals, to give the Bobcats some hardware to take home on the evening.
