The Ledger-Transcript has added six new people to its staff.

Tony Marquis joins the Ledger-Transcript as an editor after spending 4 1/2 years with the Vermont Standard, a weekly newspaper in Woodstock, Vermont.

Marquis – who lives in Bedford with his wife, Amanda, and their two dogs – is happy to be working closer to home and with a staff and community that “cares about journalism.”

“It seemed like a logical step,” said Marquis. “I’m excited to be working with a larger staff. I haven’t had that collaborative experience since college.”

To top things off, Kessler hiked 600 miles of the Appalachian Trail.

“I enjoy traveling because I love to experience things firsthand,” said Kessler, who grew up in Wilmot and currently lives in Peterborough. “It’s all about the adventure.”

Latham first became interested in a journalism career after participating in a high school summer program.

“I was hypnotized by the role and importance of journalism,” said Latham.

While learning his craft in the nation’s capital, Latham said he was often thrust into the world of politics, attending debates for mayor and interviewing at least one sitting member of Congress.

Liz Krason joins the Ledger-Transcript staff as a member of the production staff, bringing 20 years of graphic design experience.

Krason previously worked in Boston as a graphic designer for a landscape architecture firm, a custom magazine firm, and a design studio. Krason moved to Peterborough in 2001 after her husband got a job in the area, which presented an opportunity for her to raise her two children and to do some freelance work.

“In high school I was always interested in art. I always though I would go on to become an illustrator,” said Krason.

Poorte, who has a background in public relations, marketing, and personal training, moved to Peterborough about 18 months ago after becoming tired of living in the Washington D.C. area.

“Peterborough offers everything that D.C. did but on a smaller scale,” said Poorte. “The only difference is there is only one of everything, rather than 500.”
