The Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Peterborough First Saturday Contra Dance on Feb. 4, featuring Steve Zakon-Anderson calling with sibling musicians Liz and Dan Faiella.
Dance caller Steve Zakon-Anderson has been leading contra dances for over 25 years. He has performed at dance camps and festivals from Alaska to Florida. Steve’s clear teaching, precise calling and sense of humor have made him a favorite of dancers of all ages and abilities.
Raised on contra dances, fiddle contests, and Irish sessions, New Hampshire’s Liz and Dan Faiella bring to life the traditional Irish and New England music of their roots with Liz’s lyrical fiddle and vocals and Dan’s spirited low whistle and guitar.
This sibling folk duo has captivated audiences at premier folk venues, contra dances, and festivals around New England. Liz and Dan have performed at Club Passim, the Boston Celtic Music Festival, the New England Folk Festival, the Acadia Trad Festival, and New Hampshire’s Seacoast Irish Festival. They have received music and dance scholarships from the New England Folk Festival Association and the Country Dance and Song Society; and have shared the stage with celebrated New England folk musicians including David Surette, Randy Miller, Dudley and Jacqueline Laufman, Matt and Shannon Heaton, and Grammy winner Dan Zanes.
The dancing begins at 8 p.m. The dance also hosts a free jam session for beginning and intermediate musicians at 6:30 p.m. and a workshop for new dancers at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $10 or $7 for students and seniors.
