The town of Jaffrey is down to four finalists for its town manager position.

With the Select Board interviewing candidates on Monday, Select Board chair Don MacIsaac feels confident that the town will have a suitable replacement before March.

“I solemnly believe that we will have someone in place before Town Meeting,” said MacIsaac, in an interview Thursday.

The town has been searching for a new town manager since October, when Dave Caron announced that he would leave his post to become town administrator in Derry. Caron’s last day was Dec. 2.

In the interim, the town hired John MacLean, who previously worked as Keene’s city manager from August 1995 to October 2015, as interim town manager. MacLean has been paid $85 per hour as a contracted employee through MRI and will serve until a permanent manager is hired.

Around 50 people applied for the position, according to MacIsaac. Of those 50 or so applicants, 16 states and the United Kingdom were represented.

The town’s search committee concluded interviews on Wednesday and made their recommendations for finalists.
