To the editor:
Where is the Mascenic District today financially?
We have before us an opportunity to provide for the youngsters of our community.
As a School Board member for the last three plus years, I can tell you the transition has been a lengthy process but generally very successful. With the leadership of Superintendent Ruthann Goguen and her administrative team, we have enhanced more programs to promote the success of this district.
Teachers and staff throughout the Mascenic District have stepped up to better themselves and benefit the district by learning up-to-date teaching methods. This training gives them the knowledge to find students โwhere they are atโ and teach them better study habits, and hence increase the studentsโ knowledge base.
Now we are nearing the end of the current budget season. Iโm confused. Some have now offered to โhelp usโ with our budget process. OK? A warrant article pops up to again change the system to provide an objective look at the finances! Has anyone noticed the change in tax rate for last year? The New Ipswich education rate in December 2016 dropped $1.72 per $1,000 โ from $20.19 to $19.19. Are the authors saying the Board has been derelict in its duty?
Status report: We are on track to have returned over $2,250,000 dollars to the New Ipswich taxpayers for fiscal years 2015 ($1,001,274) and 2016 ($ 1,251,491).
There are plans in place to improve our schools to give our future adult citizens better opportunities in this fast paced world. Systems changes or unreasonable budget cuts would only slow down the process and could cost money. Your School Board and superintendent have been working very hard for the betterment of this district.
