A section of Route 202 in Bennington was closed off for seven hours on Thursday as a result of a fuel spill that crossed over the road and made its way into the Contoocook River.
A Bennington Police Department news release says the spill occurred around 7:50 a.m. after a Morgan Linenย delivery truck departing from the Monadnock Paper Mill spilled fuel onto the roadway. Aboutย 35 gallons of fuel leaked onto the road, five of which ended up making its way into the waterway.ย
An officer said the road reopened at about 2 p.m.ย
Bennington police andย fire personnel responded to the spill.ย Peterborough fire crews, state police and the the stateโs Department of Environmental Services also arrived on scene.ย
