The ConVal-Conant Griffins avenged a 6-3 loss three weeks ago against the Cats of Kearsage-Plymouth with a 2-1 victory at the Jason Ritchie Arena on Monday night.
The Griffins came out flying and applied most of the offense early but could not capitalize. After a scoreless first, it was K-Pโs Alex Swords that started the scoring, netting a quick shot past senior goaltender Wyatt Robbins. CC continued their pressure and it paid off when Aidan Kirby wristed a beautiful bar-down shot to tie the game at one.
The game went back and forth through most of the third as both goalies made great saves to keep the game knotted at 1-1. But ConVal-Conantโs offensive pressure was just too much for the tired K-P defense as Luca Haufler pounced on the loose puck and rebound from Cam Tracy and got the game winner with 2:10 remaining.
โWe came with a different game plan tonight and assigned specific roles for specific players and it paid off,โ said head coach Mark Leger.
ConVal-Conant (2-4) was set to host Lebanon (3-3) Wednesday night after press time. The Griffins travel to Kennett (5-0) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
