A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to a minimum of a year and a half in state prison after he was involved in a September police chase from Milford to Jaffrey.
Timothy Dobias, 29, whose last known address was Keene, was sentenced last week by the Cheshire Superior Court to one and a half to three years in prison and a $434 fine, with the entirety of the fine being suspended for two years, after reaching a plea agreement on a charge of possession of heroin.
On Sept. 2 at about 7 a.m., Jaffrey police were notified by the Cheshire County Sheriffโs Office that police units in Hillsborough County were in pursuit of a 2013 Ford Escape, which was heading southbound on Route 202 from Peterborough, according to court documents.
The chase lasted about seven miles in Jaffrey before Dobias pulled over in the area of Mountain Road and Bullard Road.
Dobias told police that he didnโt stop because he was on the phone with his children who he wanted to talk to before going back to jail, according to an affidavit on file at the Cheshire Superior Court. Dobias also told police that he was out on bail for failing to register as a sex offender.
The chase began in Milford, when police sayย Dobias appeared to swerve at a police cruiser that had another car stopped.
Also as a part of the plea deal, Dobias will receive a pretrial confinement credit of 124 days and is recommended for drug and alcohol treatment and counseling with the Department of Corrections, with Dobias afforded the option to earn time reductions for completion of various programs.
Dobias also pleaded guilty to a charge of disobeying a police officer, which carries a one year jail sentence, which is suspended for two years after he is released from prison.
As a part of the plea deal, Dobias also pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana to which he was sentenced to an additional $434 fine, all of which is suspended for two years. Jail time under this sentence is served concurrently with the charge of disobeying an officer.
Dobias was also charged with a total of nine other charges in Peterborough, Wilton, and Milford.
In Peterborough, Dobias was charged with disobeying an officer and driving after revocation or suspension, both misdemeanor level offenses.
Presently, Dobias is scheduled for a trial at the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey on Feb. 13 for the Peterborough charges.
In Wilton, Dobias was also charged with misdemeanor counts of disobeying an officer and driving after revocation. Dobias was sentenced to a six months in jail and a $620 fine, with the entirety of the fine being suspended for one year, after being found guilty on the disobeying an officer charge.
The driving after revocation or suspension charge was not carried forward.
