A new series of house concerts at the South of Monadnock intentional community hopes to bring friends and neighbors together through music.
Hannah and Daniel Bissex and the rest of the South of Monadnock families worked hard to get their community built at the former Meeting School location in Rindge.
โItโs kind of like an exponential curve,โ Hannah said of their three-plus year journey to create their community, currently made up of three families, but likely to expand once they sign their condo association documents and open the door for more housing. โItโs taken a long time to get things going, and now the momentum is really building.โ
Now, theyโll use that spot for more than just living and farming, with a series of house concerts set to kick off tonight, with Boston roots-rocker Adam Ezra taking the stage.
Ezra was the perfect fit for the series, Hannah said. โHeโs been a local Boston musician for some time. He has a really unique sound. He really believes in music as a way to create social capital and movement. Weโre trying to use music to bring people together to inspire a positive movement. Adamโs philosophy really aligns with that.โ
The show starts tonight at 7:30 p.m. at South of Monadnock; preceding the music, Ezra and the gang will attend the communityโs weekly potluck at 6 p.m. โ a tradition built out of that same social philosophy.
โWhy live in a community, why do all the hard work that weโre doing together?โ Hannah said. โBecause thatโs we we need in these times, is for people to come together and realize the shared power that we all have. On the human realm, we need to be building, working across the aisle or across our diverse social backgrounds.โ
