The Conant girls’ annual thrashing of Raymond took place as scheduled Tuesday night, as the Orioles got a big spark off their bench on their way to a 57-30 victory over the Rams.
Freshman guard Silas Bernier came off the bench in the middle of the first quarter and promptly caught fire, hitting four straight three-pointers to ignite a Conant barrage from behind the arc. Bernier said that head coach Brian Troy talked to her before the game about confidence; the talk seemed to take.
“I’ve struggled with confidence throughout the season,” Bernier said, “and I think that really did it for me.:
She said she embraces her role as the sixth player in the rotation.
“It definitely feels good, boosts up the energy for everyone and makes me more pumped to be off the bench first,” Bernier said.
Bernier finished with a game-high 15 points and Conant would hit a total of nine threes on the night. Megan Wheeler and Taylor Banish scored ten points each. Every Oriole played and the majority scored.
“Great team win,” Troy said. “They shot with confidence, played great defense, energy was high tonight.”
Conant (4-2) travels to Mascoma (2-4) Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
