On Saturday, Jan. 7 at 1 p.m., The Peterborough Players will present a streamed broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of NABUCCO live in High Definition.
Verdi’s impressively epic opera returns to the Met a powerful and sprawling production that will take you far back in time to Babylon, where tensions rise between the Hebrews and the Babylonians. Nabucco (the legendary Placido Domingo) is King, but his days are numbered, at least according to his treacherous daughter Abigaille, who plans to over throw her father and expel the Israelites. But first she must dispose of her kidnapped sister, whose time in captivity has found her sympathetic and dedicated to restoring peace…
First performed in 1841, this Biblical based opera was Verdi’s first career defining piece. With a libretto by Temistocle Solera, Nabucco is a huge and ambitious tale, that takes the audience on a breathtaking journey through an incredible historic epic!
Redemption, revenge, love and despair Nabucco is a magnificent example of Verdi’s genius and is a must see this season!
