Garrett Maki was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in early June, but it wasn’t until last week that he was honored for it.

A Court of Honor was held for Maki, a Jaffrey resident, at the Shattuck Golf Club. Surrounded by friends, family, and even U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte, Maki was celebrated for achieving the top Boy Scout rank.

“A lot of other people have their Court of Honor pretty close [to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout,]” said Maki. “It was extra special [being able to have Ayotte there].”

The reason for the delay in celebration was simple: Maki has been training for the army since graduating from Conant High School in the spring. Maki was stationed at Fort Benning in Georgia for training and has now been assigned to Fort Riley in Kansas.

Being home for Christmas leave for a short period of time, people close to Maki quickly pulled together his Court of Honor.

Maki’s Eagle Scout project was completed in early May. For his project, Maki helped to build a shed at the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance building for a generator.
