PETERBOROUGHAdult Christian ed class to begin

All Saints’ Church discussion of the book “The New Jim Crow” will start Jan. 5 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This is the third session in the church’s Christian Education series. John T. Adams and Christine Howe, All Saints’ parishioners, will lead the discussion of Michelle Alexander’s award-winning book “The New Jim Crow”.

One in 15 black men is in prison. One in every 106 white men is incarcerated. Our country has 5 percent of the world’s population and 25 percent of the world’s prisoners. Blacks are sent to prison for drug offenses at 10 times the rate of whites.

Alexander’s troubling hypothesis is that mass incarceration has the same purpose and effect as did slavery and Jim Crow: the relegation of blacks to a life with few opportunities and no public voice.

This third session will meet for four Thursday evenings, Jan. 5 through Jan. 26 in the Church Old Parish House, 51 Concord St.

Sessions are free and all are welcome to attend.
