The ConVal indoor track teams improved on their performances from the first meet of the season Monday, Dec. 26, at the University of New Hampshire Paul Sweet Oval.

Sophomore Clare Veverka was, once again, the story of the day. She followed her 1500m run win last week by taking the 1000m run easily in 3:06, winning by 11 seconds and meeting her second divisional championship qualifying standard.

Now she is qualified for the Division II meet in both events. Her 1000m time is the best in the division this year, and her 1500m time is second.

For good measure, she also finished sixth in the 300m dash in 48.94 seconds, and ran the anchor leg for the runner-up 4x400m relay.

That relay team was rounded out by Lucy Freeman, Greta Topping and Rachel Hurley, and finished behind only Portsmouth High School.

Freeman, Hurley and Topping also did some scoring of their own. Freeman was third in the 600m dash in 1:51, ahead of sixth-place Hurley with a 1:58. Topping, only a freshman, was fourth in the 55m dash in 8.04 seconds.

Rhiannon Bell and Savannah Hall held the field events, placing fifth and sixth in the shot put with marks of 28-feet-six-and-a-half-inches and 27-feet-one-quarter-inch, respectively.

Hall, Sarah Newell, Alyssa Janoch and Emma Brown made up ConVal’s sixth-place sprint relay team.

On the boys’ side, Evan Coyne was ConVal’s undisputed most valuable performer.

The sophomore had a hand in all nine of the team’s points. He was second individually in the 1000m run in a time of 2:55, and anchored the fifth-place 4x400m relay team with Sean Boggis, Finn Wegmueller and Carter Hunt.

ConVal was the only local team competing at UNH Monday, but Conant and Mascenic took to the track at Dartmouth College on Friday, Dec. 23.

The Conant boys and Mascenic girls were shut out from the scoring. The highest-placing Oriole on the boys’ side was Tyler Sands, who finished 10th in the 300m dash with a time of 39.31 seconds. He also competed in the preliminary round in the 55m dash and was on the 4x400m and sprint relay teams. The only member of the Lady Vikings to make the trip was Kylie Bane, who ran 7:12 for 24th in the 1500m run.

For the Mascenic boys, senior Jake Movsessian was the lone scorer. He was third in the 3000m run with a time of 9:24. This qualifies him for the division II championship meet. He has the second-fastest 3000m time in the division this season.

Jordan Banish took care of all the scoring for the Conant girls, placing sixth in the 55m hurdles in 10.25 seconds.

All three schools will compete again this week, weather permitting. ConVal is scheduled to be at Dartmouth today, Dec. 29, and Conant and Mascenic will be at UNH tomorrow, Dec. 30.
