A nonprofit launched by a Jaffrey woman was the recipient of donations gathered at a recent meeting of 100+ Women Who Care Cheshire County.
The Monadnock Restorative Community is designed to provide support and mentorship to women recently released from jail. The donation was more than $7, 750.
Leaf Seligman, cofounder of the community, accepted the donation. “Especially now, after a bruising season of rancor and divisiveness when it is easy to lose hope, we need to hold fast to our ability to come together and make a wonderful difference in the lives of folks nearby who also long to be healthy, whole and contributing members of our community,” said Seligman.
Seligman said the donation will be used to provide support for women re-integrating into community after incarceration through counseling, mentoring and internships. The nonprofit was founded in August of 2015.
With the additional funds, Leaf said the MRC will be able to support 20 women leaving jail who are eager to reset their lives in a positive direction.
Three local nonprofits made presentations at the group’s meeting.
A vote was held to determine who would receive the support of the group for that meeting, and each member wrote a check for a minimum of $50 to the nonprofit organization that receives the most votes.
