The Police Department has hired on a new full-time officer, Chief Andrew Wood told select board members during its regular meeting Monday evening.
The department’s hiring of Shane “Joey” Sweeney brings the department to three full-time officers.
“We’re fully staffed now,” Wood said.
Wood also told the board that the department will have a surplus in this year’s budget.
He said there are two things the department could potentially use those funds for; a downpayment on the replacement of all of its stun guns and the monies to purchase a new portable traffic enforcement sign.
Wood pitched a potential service agreement that would compensate the department for the stun guns they already own.
The replacements would cost about $1,400 per unit, which would be paid out over the course of five years.
Wood originally budgeted to spend about $2,000 per year on the items, although the contract he is interested in pursuing would bump that yearly number up to about $2,600.
He said the department is also interested in buying a portable speed enforcement sign that would also be able to count traffic. The device would cost about $4,600.
“These have proven to be a useful tool,” Wood said.
The board said it would discuss both matters during a future meeting.
Town Treasurer Diane Loomis has resigned from the position due to time conflicts, select board members said during Monday’s meeting.
The board appointed Sharon Gordon to the position. The turnover is scheduled to take place in January.
The board was set to meet again on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Its next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
