Conant senior captain James Record was feeling it Friday night in the Orioles’ home opener against Campbell, but the team went cold late and ended up falling to the Cougars 63-56. Record finished with 33 points in the game; Tate Niemela added 10. The Orioles were up 21-7 after the first and saw that lead erode each quarter until Campbell went up in the fourth. “We have played the No. 3 and No. 5 teams in the state early and have been tested,” said head coach Eric Saucier. “In order to compete with the top teams in the division, we have to get better defensively!” Conant (1-2) is done with regular-season play until after the new year, though they’ll compete in the Keene Holiday Tournament starting Monday, when they play Monadnock at 7 p.m.
