The first major snowfall of the winter lead to a few car accidents throughout the Monadnock region, with two people needing to be transported to the hospital after sustaining injuries.
At 4:25 on Monday morning, Jaffrey police responded to Turnpike Road near Kimball Farm for the report of a single vehicle accident. A 2003 Ford pickup truck, driven by Kalee Lang, 38, of Troy, was traveling down the road when she lost control due to slippery road conditions, striking a tree and a fence.ย
Both Lang and her passenger, Josh Pipitone, 29, of Jaffrey, were injured in the crash and were transported to Monadnock Community Hospital. Lang suffered back, neck, and knee injuries, while Pipitone suffered neck and back injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene after sustaining damage to the passenger side front door.ย
Rindge police responded to a vehicle rollover on Mondayย on Forrestall Road. A 2009 Pontiac G6, driven by Michael Morin, 20, of Winchendon, Massachusetts, was found on all four tires at around 3:16 a.m. Morin had lost control of his vehicle due to slippery road conditions, slid several feet, then struck a ditch, which caused the car to roll over.ย
Morin did not report any injuries. The Pontiac sustained significant damage on all sides and was towed from the scene.ย
With Monday marking the first major snowfall of the winter, school districts throughout the Monadnock region elected to cancelย school, marking the first snow day of the 2016-17 school year.ย
Peterborough Police Chief Scott Guinard said the only weather-related incident in town occurred at 8:25 a.m. when a tractor trailer had trouble getting up Temple Mountain. Guinard said a police officer stayed with the truck until it was able to get up the road, as the truck was blocking a lane of traffic.ย
