The Conant girls’ basketball went out and won their season opener at Newport Friday, 45-37.
“Great team road win against a very scrappy and tough Newport team,” said new head coach Brian Troy.. “We executed great down the stretch and kept our composure when Newport went on a run to start the second half.”
Senior Megan Wheeler led the way with 18 points including two threes. Daria Aho scored all 12 of her points in the first half. Taylor Banish hit three threes. and Mariah Chamberlain finished with five points.
“Our defense was very active early and often, creating a bunch of steals and deflections. I was very happy with the way my team kept their composure at the end of the game,” Troy said.
Conant (1-0) hosts Monadnock tonight at 5 p.m.
