Trailing by 10 at the end of the first quarter, the Franklin Pierce University women’s basketball team waged a furious comeback as they defeated non-conference opponent Holy Family University 61-58 during Sunday matinee basketball action at the Fieldhouse. With the win, the Ravens improve to 2-4 on the year and the loss drops the Tigers to 1-5.

Freshman guardย Mya Mosley paced the Ravens attack with a game-high 16 points while snagging 11 rebounds en route to her first career double-double. Mosley added a game-best four steals as well. Teammateย Sarah Middletonย  proved clutch down the stretch as she nailed crucial free throws and drove the lane numerous times for buckets on her way to 14 points. Middleton also dished out four assists and grabbed five boards.

Kelsey Mayoย  scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds while newcomerย Cameryn Wilson racked up 10 points off the bench.

FPU out shot (41.5%-to-35.4%) and out rebounded (44-to-39) their opponents. The Crimson and Grey scored 44 of their 61 points (72.1%) in the low post.

Middleton took over the game down the stretch for the Crimson and Grey as she scored the final seven points for her team. The first bucket came off a steal from Mosley which led to a Middleton layup to knot the score. On the next Holy Family possession, they came up empty with a missed three-pointer that led to a Ravens 30 second timeout.

After the stoppage, Mosley missed a three pointer, but the rebound was gobbled up by Mayo who immediately dished the rock to Middleton who drove the lane which put Pierce up two with 48 seconds left.

The Tigers had a chance to tie the game, but missed both freebies. On the second miss, Holy Family kept possession after a team offensive rebound which led to an attempted three-ball by Conroy that clanged off the rim and into the hands of Mosley. Middleton was fouled and converted three-of-four three throw attempts down the stretch as the Ravens held on for the win.

The Ravens return to action on Wednesday when they host Northeast-10 Conference opponent Stonehill at 5:30 p.m.
