Two drivers were sent to the hospital on Monday after a driver left the road, striking a telephone poll which hit another car.
At 8:27 a.m., Wilton police responded to Route 101, just west of Russell Hill Road for a report that a 2012 Ford, being driven by James Tuttle, 67, of Wilton, had left the road, striking and breaking a telephone pole, according to Wilton Police Chief Brent Hautanen.
The sheared off pole swung into the roadway, impacting a 2012 Suburu being driven eastbound by Linda Pineau, 70. The impact caused Pineauโs vehicle to go off the right side of the road, where it rolled onto its roof and got tangled in the support wires for the telephone poll.
Tuttle received multiple injuries and was transported to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center by the Wilton Ambulance. Pineau received a minor injury and was transported to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center by Milford Ambulances. Both of their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Both of their vehicles were towed from the scene and are believed to be totaled, according to Hautanen.
The road was temporarily closed in one lane until about 11:40 a.m., while electric crews did a pole repair.
Wilton fire and police also responded to another serious crash over the weekend, when on Saturday afternoon, at about 3:53 p.m., on Dale Street, a 2002 Ford operated by Tanner Gallant, 20, of Wilton, went off the road, striking a tree head-on.
Gallant was traveling north when he crossed over the southern lane of travel and went off the road. Gallant was extricated from his vehicle by the Wilton Fire Department and airlifted by a Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team, or DHART, helicopter to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
The cause of both accidents are under investigation. Police did not know the status of the drivers on Monday afternoon.
