Not a timeto be silent

To the editor:

One thing we know for certain about next week is that the vote count on Election Day and beyond will be memorable. It will be followed by Veterans Day a few days later. For this veteran – who was once a frequent contributor of letters to the editor of the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript, recently missing in action as a regular correspondent – this is not a time to be silent.

An Air Force veteran, I earned a Distinguished Flying Cross after flying 55 B-26 night photo reconnaissance missions over North Korea in 1952. Like other war survivors, I never felt particularly heroic about this recognition. I just did what I was trained to do and did my job in a war that I know was appropriate for our country. One thing I know is that I did not get into this war for the likes of Donald Trump.

The grotesque prospect of this totally unqualified contender for the job of commander in chief and president is horrifying to imagine.
