The Jaffrey Woman’s Club is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the dedication of the Cutler Memorial building. The club will commemorate this occasion with a high tea at their Nov. 8 meeting at 1 p.m. All past and present members are invited to attend. The program will feature light refreshments of sweets and savories with the tea service, and interesting trivia over these 75-p years, extracted from the Club’s extensive archives.
The Cutler Memorial Building is located in the Downtown Jaffrey Historic District which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. This downtown landmark, built in 1845 at the corner of Main and School Streets, was originally the home to the Universalist Church.
The present spire was added in 1883 and a large ornate clock from the E. Howard Company of Boston was installed in the steeple. This timepiece is one of two Town Clocks in Jaffrey, the other housed in the Meetinghouse in Jaffrey Center, each of which is maintained by the Town.
The Jaffrey Woman’s Club promotes civic, cultural, and charitable projects in support of the community. Membership is open to all Monadnock area women; for further information visit the Club on Facebook or email jaffreywomansclub@gmail.com.
