MILFORD‘West Side Story’ opens Friday

The Riverbend Youth Company will present a production of “West Side Story” at the Amato Center for the Performing Arts with an opening performance on Friday, Nov. 4.

“West Side Story,” with music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by Arthur Laurents, is based on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” Set in Manhattan’s West Side in the 1950s, this landmark musical bravely addressed dark social issues, while introducing sophisticated music and extended dance scenes.

The Grammy-winning score includes “Something’s Coming,” “Maria,” “America,” “Somewhere,” “Tonight,” “I Feel Pretty,” “Jet Song,” and “Cool.”

This is Riverbend Youth Company’s 100th production since their beginnings in 2006. Cast members come from Milford, Amherst, Greenville, Nashua, Merrimack and Pepperell, Massachusetts.

Tickets are $12 for adults, and $8 for students and seniors, and can be reserved online at www.amatocenter.org or purchased at the door.

Performances will be held Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2:30 p.m.
