New Dublin Police Sgt. Jeremy Jeffers has only been on the job a few weeks, but he already feels at home.
Having grown up in Oriskany Falls, New York (which has a population of 732 according to the 2010 Census), Jeffers is no stranger to the workings of a small, tight-knit community.
Jeffers also comes armed with knowledge of the area, as he was a police officer in Marlborough for almost two years prior to taking the position in Dublin.
โThis is an exciting opportunity for me, as it is my first supervisory position,โ said Jeffers. โPeople have been very welcoming so far.โย
Jeffers takes the helm as Dublinโs sergeant, a position created in this yearโs budget.
Jeffers will have a badge ceremony on Nov. 7 during the Select Board meeting. He has been on the job since Oct. 18.
Jeffers may be a small-town guy at heart, but that doesnโt mean he hasnโt had experience in the big city, as for seven years he was a police officer in the heart of the nationโs capital, Washington, D.C.
โI felt that a big city was the best way to get a lot of experience fast,โ said Jeffers. โI would see so much just in a week or two.โ
As Jeffersโ family began to grow โ he is now married with two young children โ he decided he wanted to raise his family in a small town, which is what eventually led him to New Hampshire.
Jeffers said he has wanted to be a police officer for as long as he can remember, and he hopes to continue to bring positive change into peopleโs lives.
โThereโs a lot of bad in this world. Iโm hoping to be a part of the solution,โ said Jeffers.
