New Dublin Police Sgt. Jeremy Jeffers has only been on the job a few weeks, but he already feels at home.

Having grown up in Oriskany Falls, New York (which has a population of 732 according to the 2010 Census), Jeffers is no stranger to the workings of a small, tight-knit community.

Jeffers also comes armed with knowledge of the area, as he was a police officer in Marlborough for almost two years prior to taking the position in Dublin.

โ€œThis is an exciting opportunity for me, as it is my first supervisory position,โ€ said Jeffers. โ€œPeople have been very welcoming so far.โ€ย

Jeffers takes the helm as Dublinโ€™s sergeant, a position created in this yearโ€™s budget.

Jeffers will have a badge ceremony on Nov. 7 during the Select Board meeting. He has been on the job since Oct. 18.

Jeffers may be a small-town guy at heart, but that doesnโ€™t mean he hasnโ€™t had experience in the big city, as for seven years he was a police officer in the heart of the nationโ€™s capital, Washington, D.C.

โ€œI felt that a big city was the best way to get a lot of experience fast,โ€ said Jeffers. โ€œI would see so much just in a week or two.โ€

As Jeffersโ€™ family began to grow โ€“ he is now married with two young children โ€“ he decided he wanted to raise his family in a small town, which is what eventually led him to New Hampshire.

Jeffers said he has wanted to be a police officer for as long as he can remember, and he hopes to continue to bring positive change into peopleโ€™s lives.

โ€œThereโ€™s a lot of bad in this world. Iโ€™m hoping to be a part of the solution,โ€ said Jeffers.
