The ConVal girls’ volleyball team had a little something extra on their side Monday night as they hosted Fall Mountain. The Cougars had dedicated the game to Cole Wohle, the recent ConVal grad who passed away this summer.
Before they took the floor, the girls presented a bouquet of flowers to Wohle’s family and head coach Amanda Hinton read a heartfelt speech about the young man.
“There was true love all around,” Hinton said, “It was a great night and I am so happy to have been a part of it.”
Then, it was on with the game. ConVal, buoyed by the record crowd, chanted “Cowboy Cole!” as they came out of each timeout or set break. With that increased intensity, the Cougars swept the Wildcats, handily, 3-0.
“Any win feels good, but this win was completely different,” said ConVal’s Jaylyn Desrosiers after the game. “We played for someone who really left his mark on us and I’m so glad we came out with a win.”
Leading the Cougars’ offense were Aidan Dissinger with 8 kills, 6 aces, and 2 assists, Mary Grossi with 6 aces, Joanna Adams with 3 aces and 15 assists, and Abby Cail with 7 kills.
The defense was lead by Aidan Dissinger, Abby Cail, and Joanna Adams who totaled for 33 digs and 14 successful serve receives on the night.
ConVal (4-6) travels to Hanover (2-9) Friday at 6:15 p.m.
