The town of Jaffrey will have two months to find a new town manager, as Dave Caron has announced that he is leaving in December for a job in Derry.
“Jaffrey has been a welcoming community with great spirit,” said Caron, in an interview Wednesday. “It has been a pleasure to work here.”
Caron was named Derry’s new town administrator during a Town Council meeting on Tuesday. His last day in Jaffrey will likely be Dec. 2.
Town Council in Derry reached out to Caron in August, he said. After subsequent talks, Caron said he became intrigued by the job because of the economic development opportunities presented, coupled with his knowledge of the area, as he had been town manager in the neighboring town Londonderry for a decade.
Caron said the timing of his departure has the potential to present some budgetary challenges for the town, as in the past he had received department head recommendations on Dec. 1. Caron said he would talk to the Select Board during next Monday’s meeting to see if the issue could be addressed.
