A celebration on Friday at the Jaffrey Civic Center was the culmination of 50 years of civic pride and strength.

The festivities marked the opening of a new exhibit at the Civic Center, which showcases photographs, news articles, and other documentation of art shows and other activities that have taken place over the past half century.

“It’s a lot of work digging through 50 years,” said Executive Director Regina Vorce on Friday, about the effort that went into assembling the exhibit. Vorce credited board member Peggy Ueda specifically for her contributions.

In addition to the exhibit, the Civic Center hosted a guest speaker, author Robert D. Putnam, who spoke of his experiences in Jaffrey and the “civic strengths” of the community.

“What’s distinct about New Hampshire is that the bank’s manager and janitor are just as likely to be involved in the town,” said Putnam.

Civic Center Board of Directors President William Schofield publicly thanked Bill Driscoll for all the work he has done.

“I don’t know a better person than Bill Driscoll,” said Schofield, before giving Driscoll an envelope that contained “a small token of appreciation.”
