The first of four open candidate forums hosted by the Antrim-Bennington Lions Club will take place Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 6:30 p.m., and feature candidates to represent Hillsborough County Districts 1 and 3 in the State House of Representatives.
According to organizer and Lions Club Vice President Steve Ullman, all four candidates for District 1 are confirmed to appear: Hillsborough Republican Jim Fedolfi, Antrim Republican Charles Levesque, Hillsborough Democrat Marjorie Porter, and Hillsborough Democrat Gilman Shattuck.
He said the uncontested District 3 candidate, Bennington Democrat John Manley, will also be in attendance.
โWe provide refreshments, and then we have tables where candidates can place their literature,โ Ullman said.
Candidates will answer questions audience-members submit on index cards after a brief meet-and-greet.
This is the third edition of the forum, which began in 2012.
โCandidates ask if weโre doing it again,โ he said. โApparently these open forums donโt occur all that often.โ
Hillsborough District 1 represents the towns of Antrim, Hillsborough and Windsor. District 3 includes Bennington, Greenfield and Hancock.
This is the first of four the Club will host at the Antrim Town Hall, in the second floor meeting room. Typically, according to Ullman, 40 to 50 people attend.
On Oct. 5, Hillsborough District 38 (14 towns from Windsor to Wilton) candidates will be there. At least two have already confirmed. Oct. 12 is for state senate District 8 (24 towns from Grantham to Francestown) candidates.
Ullman hopes the final forum on Oct. 19 will feature candidates for executive Council District 5 candidates. The incumbent in that race is David Wheeler of Milford, a Republican. His challenger in Nashua Democrat Dan Weeks, a Temple native.
