Graduate student Marius Preber scored in the 93rd minute of overtime as the Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Molloy College 3-2 Saturday evening at the RVC Sports Complex. With the win, the Ravens move to 2-0 on the young season and the setback sends Molloy to 1-2.
The captain was set up by midfielder Jacob Maddox and midfielder Bernard Broni using tic tac toe passing then Preber chipped a shot over the head of Lions goaltender Raul Bonilla and into the cage for his fourth goal of the season. Preber scored his third goal of the campaign in the 23rd minute thanks to a long goal kick from teammate Jadel Poon-Lewis that the forward flipped over the keeper’s head.
56 seconds into the first half of play, reigning Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week Jacob Blixt buried a free kick opportunity from 35 yards out to open the scoring for the Ravens.
In the second stanza Molloy’s own Kyle Poetzsch notched two goals five minutes apart to knot up the match before Preber struck in extra time to send the Ravens back to Rindge with the victory.
Jadel Poon-Lewis moved to 2-0 on the season making seven saves in the win. Raul Bonilla played the majority of the match in goal for Molloy, made five saves and took the loss.
Through two games, Franklin Pierce has eight goals with Preber and Blixt scoring four goals each.
The Ravens return to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 13 for their first NE-10 match at Saint Michael’s with gametime slated for 3:30 p.m.
