Conval football lost a tough one on the road against Milford to open the season 41-35. Down 27-7 at the half, the Cougars scored 14 straight points to cut the score to 27-21. ConVal twice got the ball in the red zone with a chance to tie or take the lead but couldn’t punch it in, and traded touchdowns the rest of the way with the Spartans, losing after an onside kick attempt went to the Spartans with a minute left.
On Offense, the Cougars were led by junior QB Dan Spezzaferri, who finished the game 19/36 for 337 yards and 3 TDs in the air and 1 TD on the ground.ย
Senior running back and Captain Danny Parker also had a huge game for the Cougars, scoring 2 TDs, 1 receiving and 1 rushing, to go along with 231 all purpose yards.ย Isaac Bacon, Jimmy Stewart, and Liam Baldwin all had great games at receiver, with Bacon at a game high 8/144 with a TD.
On defense, ConVal received great games from junior DB Hunter Gullage, junior linebacker Jake Phillips, junior nose tackle Dan Curran and sophomore linebacker Andrew Stockwell. All 4 had double digit tackles, with Stockwell adding a sack, and Hunter Gullage with a huge forced fumble/recovery.
ConVal returns to action on Friday with their home opener against Manchester West. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
