The Conant girls’ soccer team faced a lot of early pressure against Monadnock on Tuesday, but the Orioles rallied and came away with a 4-2 win.
Excellent defense by Hannah Harvey, Delaney Beaven, Bailey Brewer and Anna Graff kept the Huskies at bay, and when they did break through, goalie Taylor Banish made some great saves, said first-year coach Carlos Fuertes after the game.
Skyler Tenney broke the ice just before the end of the first half, putting Conant up 1-0. However, Monadnock evened the score at 1-1 as the half ended.
Fuertes made some halftime adjustments, moving Megan Wheeler to defense and Graff to midfield, and bringing in Olivia Maack and Kelsey Simoneau. This gave Conant control of the midfield and a number of offensive chances; eventually, Monique Hill would score on a direct kick from just outside the 18.
Monadnock would even the score again, but Hill wasn’t finished, as she scored again, from 30 yards out. Up 3-2, Conant’s Jillian Patria moved the ball up to Tenney, who sent it to Jordan Banish for the goal and a 4-2 Oriole victory.
Conant (1-1) hosts Newport (1-1) on Friday at 4 p.m.
